Warning: date() [function.date]: It is not safe to rely on the system's timezone settings. You are *required* to use the date.timezone setting or the date_default_timezone_set() function. In case you used any of those methods and you are still getting this warning, you most likely misspelled the timezone identifier. We selected 'America/Chicago' for 'CDT/-5.0/DST' instead in /backup/qa/www/sub/rss/product.php on line 32

I thought the program is easy to download and that it is a small program but yesterday when I tried to download it told me that it will take hours and I wasn\'t ready to wait. I am in a hotel business I have the program installed on my main computer at work. But I would like to be able to do the updating from home or anywhere, so I would like to have the program on my notebook as well. But it doesn\'t seem to work. I copied the program from my main computer at work on to my flashdrive. But when I put in on my notebook it just won\'t open. Please help. Thank you very much in advance. I think the program is great and very useful.

I really liked it very much, but suddenly, after maybe 15 days it stopped working. I can not start it any more. I tried uninstalling, fresh download, re instalation. Nothing worked. I went to your page and found answer, tried to download that patch but the page does not exist. So, I gave up.
Still, I think that ASI is a great little program that has all the options that small hotel may need.

Kind regards

Lada Treselj
www.theresidencecroatia.com

(

Here is my best recollection of the bad experience I had with ASI Front Desk freeware. As I mentioned in an earlier note today sent via the comment box in your e-mail, I have not been able to find the letter I sent to ASI at the time I had difficulty, probably because it was sent via the ASI website and I didn't receive a copy.

In August I downloaded the program thinking that the manager of the pansiyon I stay at in Turkey might like to see it. The program comes in two parts, one to configure the management software by entering certain data and the other to to do the actual reservation / check in / check out work. In order to be sure that I understood the system and could explain it, I put in some fictitious and facetious information to play with.

In October when I was in Turkey and ready to let the manager experiment with the program, I started to do a test run privately first to refresh my recollection of how it worked so that I could explain it. . However, I found that I could not get rid of the ridiculous material I had put in and allow the manager to put in realistic information to test the system with, so I uninstalled the program and downloaded it again. And then my trouble began.

Whenever I ran the install program, I got a message to the effect that the installation failed or could not proceed because there was no SQL Server. So I used Google and struggled to learn what one was, then went to the Microsoft website(s) to download the program. There I was told that first I needed to download and install three (perhaps only two) other programs first.

With the SQL Server and its supporting programs finally installed, I tried to install the Front Desk program again, but now I repeatedly got a message to the effect that the installation could not continue because there already was an SLQ Server on my computer and I would have to remove it first. What? Here my memory begins to blur. I might have begun to uninstall it and its companion pieces. I'm not sure. Somehow I learned that the Anand program probably had its own scaled down SQL Server built into it and I guessed that it was in conflict with the complete and newer server I had downloaded and installed.

By now I had probably spent three frustrating hours one afternoon and four or more the next day trying to make this little free ware jewel work as it had originally in August, and I couldn't even get the thing installed. So I decided that I didn't want the pansiyon manager to have to suffer through the mess I had been through (especially since there was no happy ending), and I told him I was withdrawing my recommendation for that reason.

It just occurred to me that since you have my IP address and wrote to it, Anand (That means "bliss" in Hindi or Sanskrit) may well have it too and may have a tracking program that prohibits more than one operational download of the same program. Or maybe the second download was hijacked by Kali or some vengeance demon from the Hindu pantheon.

Thank you for your interest.

Sincerely,

--Allan Adasiak

Warning: date() [function.date]: It is not safe to rely on the system's timezone settings. You are *required* to use the date.timezone setting or the date_default_timezone_set() function. In case you used any of those methods and you are still getting this warning, you most likely misspelled the timezone identifier. We selected 'America/Chicago' for 'CDT/-5.0/DST' instead in /backup/qa/www/sub/rss/product.php on line 46
